Love God Love others  Think Beyond Yourself
Longs Grove is a community of believers in Jesus Christ who gather together to daily seek out new ways to serve these purposes, and make them evident in our lives! At Longs Grove, we believe that church is more than a building. It is a living body called to go out in love, to share a life changing message in both word and deed. But first and foremost, it is a living body called to worship a living God.
 
Our Goal: To be a Simple, Missional Church!
In light of these beliefs, our goal is to be a simple, missional church. This missional philosoph and all of our ministries are driven by the purposes of Loving God and Loving Others, believing we must learn to Think Beyond Ourselves to achieve these purposes. We gain this simple mission through the words of Jesus found in the passage below.

In Matthew 22:37-40, Jesus, when asked what the greatest of God's commandments was, responds saying:
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets."

The primary purpose of man is worship and adoration of God. Throughout the Bible you see this appear again and again as priority #1 for the follower of God, until you see Jesus clearly identify it as the "Greatest Commandment" in Matthew 22. So in obedience, the Longs Grove family has identified loving God as priority #1 for us as a community of believers.
                         Also identified in this "Great Commandment" passage is the need to love others. "Love your neighbors as yourselves." And it is our goal to do just that. It is our goal, in following Jesus Christ to daily show our love to those around us in service and kindness each and every day, as we seek out new ways to share God's love in the Union/Mecklenburg County areas. And because we believe that all people have a need for God in their lives, and that Jesus Christ (God the Son) is the only way to God, we seek to share Him with the community around us through these acts of love.
  Think Beyond Yourself
The call to "Think Beyond Yourself" is the connect point for us at Longs Grove. This is because we believe that both "loving God" and "loving others" requires of us to "think beyond ourselves." We encourage all who are part of the church to focus on the eternal things of God, to daily show God their love, and share the love of God (and the Good News of Jesus Christ) with others who need it! This can happen in many ways. It can be as simple as a prayer of thanks to God, or sending someone a thoughtful e-mail or note. But whatever the act, we consider thinking beyond ourselves to love God and love others our primary purposes as a community of believers. It is through this that we seek to share the life changing message of Jesus Christ with the world around us!
